TGS 2011: Five More 3DS Slide Pad Games

None

The big problem with video game peripherals is that they are only used on a limited number of games. Ultimately, you have to weigh the cost of the peripheral against the amount of games that utilize it, and this unfortunately often ends up in a decision not to get the peripheral at all.

For example, when the clunky new Nintendo 3DS Expansion Slide Pad was originally announced, the only game it was compatible with was Monster Hunter 3 G. With that being the sole game on the Slide Pad’s compatibility list, few gamers thought the peripherals will be a worthwhile purchase. However, Nintendo has announced that Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Resident Evil: Revelations, Ace Combat 3D: Cross Rumble, Dynasty Warriors Vs., and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance will all utilize the Slide Pad Expansion peripheral. These are all big-name titles from top third-party publishers, so the Slide Pad is starting to look like a more worthwhile purchase.

For those of you who are now interested in picking one up, you won’t have to wait long. The Slide Pad will be released on December 10th in Japan and will cost 1,500 Yen—a mere nineteen U.S. dollars. The pad will take one AA battery to power, which reminds us of the old days of switching batteries out of a Gameboy. There’s no word on the device’s North American release date yet, but as many of the games that utilize it have already been confirmed for American release, we can be sure that the Slide Pad will be coming Stateside eventually.
