The Drop List 11-30-10

The Drop List 11-30-10

None

It’s the first week of December, and the retail world has officially plunged into its yearly Christmas obsession. Following suit, the game world started its descent into the doldrums of winter releases. Although there are a few bright spots this week in what is normally a bleak time for gamers, you may want to break out your reserves, because there are slim pickings from here on out.

Of course, this week’s big release is Disney Epic Mickey which drops this Tuesday exclusively for the Wii platform. If you haven’t heard already, Disney Epic Mickey puts you in the bright yellow shoes of everyone’s favorite mouse, but not in the capacity you might expect. Mickey has accidently unleashed a great evil inside the world of his brother Oswald, and needs to use both paint and thinner to change his brother’s world (known as the Wasteland) and redeem himself. Heavy stuff for a Disney title, eh?

Another Nintendo exclusive is also dropping this week. Golden Sun: Dark Dawn is a follow up to the Game Boy advance series but drops the sunlight gimmick while retaining the strong narrative structure and classic RPG gameplay that made the first one so popular. The game also takes place thirty years after the original with all-new characters, so if you missed the first two games, you can start fresh with this one.

Rounding out this week’s releases, we have Nail’d , which is a multiplatform ATV racing title that has plenty of tracks, vehicles, and mud. And speaking of multiplatform titles Deadliest Catch: Sea of Chaos comes to home consoles. Fans of the show will be able to step into the role of captain and try to get the biggest cache of crab without losing too many crewmembers. We also have SpellForce 2: Faith in Destiny , which features a story about magic in a fantastical land that is in desperate need of saving, sound familiar?

There’s certainly plenty of variety in this week’s releases, but our money is on Epic Mickey as the breakout hit of the week. Although Golden Sun certainly has a cult following, Disney has been promoting the heck out of Epic Mickey and with the amount of Disney addicts around the world, we wouldn’t be surprised if Epic Mickey posts some impressive first-week sales numbers.
