The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Cheats & Cheat Codes for PC

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the most popular video games ever made, remaining at the forefront of gaming culture over a decade after its initial release. This Bethesda RPG first came out for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC back in 2011, but has been released on just about every platform since. Although the game is beginning to show its age, its vibrant modding community ensures that it remains relevant in the present day.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s open world offers a wealth of opportunities.

In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you play as the Dragonborn, an individual prophesized to halt the return of dragons to the land of Tamriel. The main story has plenty to offer, but it’s not the only route for you to take. It’s a role-playing game, after all. Your destiny may lie elsewhere, with factions like the Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Companions, or the College of Winterhold to become their leader.

The factions all come with their own unique questlines to follow, meaning every playthrough of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim can be a totally different experience. As well as this, there are plenty of unrelated sidequests that tell their own isolated stories. All of this takes place in one of the densest open worlds ever seen in a video game. There are even hundreds of dungeons to explore, with piles of loot hidden in every corner to discover.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Main Characters

You can be whoever you want in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has so many different questlines that it can be easy to forget who the important figures are. There are very few returning characters from past games, so new players have a lot to learn here. We’re here to help.

  • The Dragonborn: As the player character, the Dragonborn’s story is only what you make of it. Will you be an agent of chaos working with the Dark Brotherhood? Arch-Mage of the College of Winterhold? Or just a good old-fashioned Dragonborn? You could even do it all at once, if you are inclined to do so.
  • Alduin: Alduin is considered to be the First Dragon, as well as the antagonist of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Both his and the Dragonborn’s destiny is forever intertwined, as they’re involved in an ancient prophecy that foretells their return. Alduin begins resurrecting the previously extinct dragons across Skyrim, bringing about the Dragon Crisis. The Dragonborn and Alduin’s rivalry comes to a close during a final confrontation in the afterlife of Sovngarde.
  • Ulfric Stormcloak: The killer of the High King of Skyrim, Ulric Stormcloak is the first character you meet in the game’s iconic introduction. He is also one of the only characters who can use the power of the Voice, just like the Dragonborn. Ulfric appears throughout serving as Jarl of Windhelm, but plays a key role in the Civil War questline, too.
  • Paarthurnax: As leader of the Greybeards, Paarthurnax is the only friendly dragon you’ll encounter in the game. A former ally of Alduin, Paarthurnax helps you defeat his former friend in the main questline. Toward the end of the game, your morals will be tested as it offers up one of the biggest choices involving Paarthurnax.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Titles in the Series

The Elder Scrolls franchise prefers quality over quantity.

Despite the franchise being almost three decades old now, it doesn’t have too many mainline entries. In recent years, The Elder Scrolls Online remains the last major release. Meanwhile, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is still the most recent numbered title. A lot of the releases are simply re-releases with slightly more content, or smaller-budget mobile titles.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Cheat Codes

The console is your best friend in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

While there aren’t any official cheat codes in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the in-game console is essentially the same thing. Sadly, the console is only available to PC players, so console gamers will have to experience Bethesda’s RPG legitimately. You can do pretty much anything with the console, and these are the most important codes you can use with it. First though, you must open the console by using the tilde key (~) – this is where you’ll enter the console commands. Another quick tip – anything involving an item, location, spell, location, perk, or NPC has a unique ID attached to it. These IDs can be found on their respective pages on The Elder Scrolls Wiki.

Gamers have plenty of questions about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim cheat codes.

How Can I Cheat Money in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?

In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, money is considered to be an item. This means that to cheat money in the game, you would have to find the item ID for Septims and use the Add Item command. We’ve done the work for you – here’s the full money cheat: player.additem 0000000f [number].

Beware – while there’s a lot of fun to be had running around the land of Skyrim as rich as can be, the game’s economy is designed around much of the early game being spent as a pauper, so it can make a huge difference to the experience.

Is There Any Way To Use The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Cheats on Consoles?

As mentioned earlier, the only official way to cheat is via the in-game console, which is a PC-exclusive feature. However, there is one way that console gamers can get a leg up.

Mods arrived on console versions of the game back in 2016. While it’s more of a closed shop than on PC, there are plenty of mods that allow console players to cheat their way across the land of Skyrim. It’s perfect if you just want a more casual playthrough of the game, without worrying too much about difficulty. See it as more of a Story Mode!

What Versions of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Do Cheats Work on?

With so many versions of the game released over the years, it can be daunting to wonder if the console commands discussed earlier work for each one.

Good news! The console commands work on every version of the game. Whether it’s the 2011 original or the 2021 Anniversary Edition, you can be safe in knowing that the console commands are completely relevant no matter which one you prefer.
