The Next Revolution: I-Cue

The Next Revolution: I-Cue

None

Before you play any new video game, you’re going to have to take an IQ test.

I-Cue is designed to gauge your gaming aptitude in terms of intelligence and physical skill. The result is a game customized to your personality and style of play. I-Cue is touted as the ultimate cheat code.

I-Cue is being implemented by virtually all major development companies. It plays like a tutorial at the beginning of each game, assessing your skill and determining aspects of your personality such as what you find funny, scary, and frustrating. This I-Cue test will be painless, as it is actually part of the game.

I-Cue goes far beyond selecting difficulty levels. Entire elements of the game will be changed pending the results of your test. The dialogue may be simplified, the puzzles may reflect more mathematical calculations, the jokes could become more cerebral, and in other instances there might be a little less talk and a lot more action if you show a predilection to shooters and platformers. The purpose of I-Cue is ensure you enjoy the hell out of each and every game you buy.

“Essentially developers will have to create multiple versions of their games,” says I-Cue creator Jimmy Nono. “The different aspects and elements to be deployed in a game will be determined by how my software interprets the players’ data. It’s an ongoing process, able to adapt to players’ changing moods and interest levels throughout the entire game. It’s all determined by the choices made during gameplay. We introduce a variety of characters, each with different characteristics into each game. The characters the player chooses to hang with will have an effect on his I-Cue score. I’ve spent years studying the skills and psychology of gamers, and that knowledge is the foundation of this software.”

A laugh track will be provided for gamers without a sense of humor, to “cue” them when something funny happened. In addition, frightening music will be employed during suspenseful or horrific scenes if it’s been determined the gamer is less responsive to visual cues. Other cues include applause during a particularly good performance, and the sound of flatulence during a particularly crappy episode.

“I-Cue is not just about dumbing down,” Nono explains, “It’s also about smartening-up. Should it be determined you’re a genius, the game will be structured to challenge you to your intellectual limits and beyond. Another great thing about this software is the replay value. It’s a different game each time you play it, as long as you learn from your past mistakes. If not, you can expect to hear a lot of farting noises.”
