The PS4 Will Support Pre-Loading

The PS4 Will Support Pre-Loading

Sony has recently confirmed rumors that it’s brand new PlayStation 4 system will support the pre-loading of games. Noted in an official post on the PlayStation Blog, users will soon be able to download and install their games prior to the game’s actual release, only unlocking the right to play the game when the official release date has passed. “We all know that some of the biggest games can take a while to download, and with the pre-load functionality, you’ll be able to download and install those huge files up to several days in advance,” Sony said. “All you have to do is pre-order the game, make sure your PS4 remains in standby mode, and sit back and relax.”

This functionality actually doesn’t have much to do with the PS4 itself, but rather is determined server side by the PSN. The very first game that will take advantage of this capability will be Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark . All games that are available for preorder on the PSN on or after May 20 th will have this capability including:

  • Battlefield Hardline
  • Bloodborne
  • Call of Duty: Advance Warfare
  • Destiny
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition
  • Far Cry 4
  • Infamous: First Light
  • Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare
  • Little Big Planet 3
  • Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
  • The Order: 1886
  • Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Pre-loading functionality will also be available on the PS3, and will hit the Xbox One as well, though Microsoft has not yet dated the release of this functionality.
