The Week in Review and Rumor Round-Up: Halo 3 Recon Renamed, Fallout 3 DLC Detailed, PS3 Price Cut?, and more!

The Week in Review news piece summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related news and rumors over the past week. This weekly article will keep you plugged in and in-tune.

According to web-wide rumors, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s President David Reeves addressed an internal group of select Sony employees at a recent event in London and revealed some major news. First, the PS3 will be getting a price drop in March 2009 in order to be more competitive. Second, Uncharted 2 is in development and Nathan Drake will return as the story’s hero . Third, LittleBigPlanet and Motorstorm are coming to the PSP . However, Sony soon thereafter tried to debunk the PS3 price cut announcement, though they never refuted any of the other unconfirmed info. This leads us to believe that a spring price cut is forthcoming but that Sony simply tried to spin the leaked info to salvage their 2008 Holiday sales.

Lionhead Studios announced on Friday that premium DLC and a free co-op update for Fable II will be made available for 800 MS points on December 12. The new pay-to-play content will feature a return Knothole Island. This time around, players will find the land mass to be a frozen waste inhabited by all-new baddies, NPCs, and quests. Plus, there will be new wondrous items. The free co-op pack will allow anyone to romp in the revamped realm. Of course, you have to buy the Premium Content pack in order to participate in the quests. However, items such as “Knight’s Boots, Assassins Gloves, a special Weight Loss Potion, collectible silver book, and more” will be included with the free update.

In a desperate attempt to foment interest in their products ahead of the Holiday, Sony has released a PlayStation credit card. The card will give consumers points toward the purchase of Sony products. As an added bonus, those who sign up for the card and purchase a PS3 between Nov. 25 and Dec. 31 will be rewarded with $150 off a new PS3 . Not bad!

Available today, Black Friday in the U.S., two new DS bundles have been announced by Nintendo. The Mario Red bundle features a bright red DS with the classic Mario “M” and a copy of Super Mario Bros. DS packed in, and the Special Edition Ice Blue DS Bundle features a nifty, Tiffany’s-like blue DS, matching carrying case, and a copy of the original Brain Age.

Microsoft and Bungie announced on Tuesday that the expansion formerly known as Halo 3: Recon has now been changed for Halo 3: ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Troopers). The developers feel the new title better encompasses gameplay and helps to consolidate the new, Master Chief-less variant.

Bethesda Softworks announced that a Creation Kit and the first downloadable content for Fallout 3 will soon be available. The G.E.C.K. Editor will be made available in December, while the three-part DLC is coming for January (Operation Anchorage), February (The Pitt), and March (Broken Steel). For good or ill, the content will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and the pricing has yet to be defined. For more info on each DLC piece, click HERE .

According to German site, Gamona.de, via G4TV, Fable II is supposedly slated to come out for PC. What’s more, the game may be out as early as February 15, 2009. None of this has been officially announced by Lionhead or Microsoft, but the premise is certainly sound. In fact it’s probably a likely occurrence. Whether Fable II releases as early as 2/15/09 or not is definitely up for debate, however.

The as-of-yet to be announced PSP2 may have found the chip company to make its GPU. Recently, a UK-based company, Imagination Technologies Group, signed an agreement with “a major consumer electronics” firm that insiders at EETimes have pegged as being Sony. Imagination Technologies Group is likely designing and building the SGX55x graphics chip for use in the upcoming PSP2. Click HERE for more details.

According to the product entry on GameStop’s retail website, GTA IV’s The Lost & the Damned DLC will be made available through retail outlets for $20. The package will include a download code and a dual-sided poster.

Thanks so much everyone and we will see you next week!
