The Week in Review news piece summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related news and rumors over the past week. This weekly article will keep you plugged in and in-tune.

BioWare got the week started off on the right foot when it announced that Mass Effect 2 was well on its way by releasing a teaser trailer . It was also noted that much of the development will be done at a cooperative studio between EA Montreal and BioWare Canada. This new studio is an attempt to attract more development talent from the greater Montreal area. Finally, a couple of “super secret projects” are also in the wings – but no details have yet been fleshed out.

Indirectly, word from Midway has come out that proves the failing company is actively seeking a buyer for their Mortal Kombat franchise. In an incentive structure document picked up by netDockets, key employees will be rewarded with nearly $2 million in bonuses if they can find a willing buyer.

It appears Sony is now flirting with a download service for PSP that will allow users to purchase “classics from on-Sony platforms,” including getting third-party publishers to give the nod to their original PlayStation titles. Right now lots of discussions are going back and forth concerning the back catalogue, but talks are still in their infancy.

Eidos and Square Enix have reached an agreement for the acquisition of the former. It appears terms have been hammered out to the satisfaction of both companies, and that May 6th is the expected date for the final signatures. According to MCV, “shareholders are expected to approve the deal at the Eidos EGM later this month.”

On the rumor front, Nintendo is already drumming up the demand surrounding the DSi by stating that they expect widespread shortages this holiday , and that interested gift-giving consumers should be on the lookout for the revamped handheld platform early. The DSi will release in North America on April 5.

Finally, Ready at Dawn, developers of God of War: Chains of Olympus, may be trying their hand at developing another God of War for the PSP. After their last effort, they vowed to stop developing for the handheld – they even went so far as to send back their dev kits. According to a “trusted source” of Joystiq, the devs are hard at work at the sequel – to be released in order to piggyback off GoQ III’s anticipated success.

Thanks so much everyone and we will see you next week!
