The Week in Review & Rumor Round-up: Ubisoft Mystery Game, Modern Warfare 2 Details, PS3 Slim Photos, and More!

None

The Week in Review news piece summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related news and rumors over the past week. This weekly article will keep you plugged in and in-tune.

Eidos got the week started off on the right foot when they confirmed the previously widely-rumored existence of Thief 4. The franchise found critical acclaim if not out and out success on the last generation of consoles. It is noe in its early stages of development for next-gen platforms, as the powers that be at Eidos are currently looking for experienced talent to bring the vision together.

Ubisoft also made their presence known this week, even if it was inadvertently so. “Mystery” game footage was leaked on Monday (click HERE to check it out). Though the recording doesn’t officially state that the video is from Beyond Good & Evil 2, the heroine is obviously Jade, the town looks exactly like Hillys, and the aircraft featured at the end are pulled directly from the original title. Gameplay looks astonishingly like a fusion between Assassin’s Creed and Mirror’s Edge. Also, the style of the game looks remarkable. Hopefully, the puzzles and charm of the original won’t be lost among all the hi-def glitz and glamour.

Just when you thought the Architect’s Edition was going to be the last expansion to City of Heroes, NCSoft and Paragon Studios announced plans this week “to challenge gamers to walk the line between Good and Evil – or cross it,” with the new expansion City of Heroes: Going Rogue . According to the presser and trailer, players will be immersed in a parallel universe called Praetoria, “which is governed by Tyrant, the evil incarnation of the game’s main protagonist, Statesman… causing heroes and villains alike to question their loyalties.” Also, a new alignment system will give players the ability to explore the “shades of gray that lie between good and evil,” essentially allowing good characters to become villains and vice versa. This will subsequently allow “hero archetypes to cross over to the Rogue Isles and villain archetypes to experience Paragon City” (Click HERE to check out the trailer).

We also found out loads of details surrounding Modern Warfare 2. Most interesting of which included images of varied rural and urban settings (from arctic cliffs to sweltering Brazilian favelas), interactive environments, a more complex and lengthier single-player story, a new Special Forces mode, and tweaked enemy respawning that will help make this version better than ever. There are a lot more details to share, however, there are too many to fit here. As such, click HERE to be connected to the entire article.

In related news, it was accidentally revealed that Call of Duty 7 (working title) is currently under development at Treyarch. Apparently, as confirmed by Treyarch senior animator David Kim’s Linkedin profile, Treyarch has taken over Call of Duty 7 as evidenced by one of Kim’s experience bullets: “I am currently on my second title as a senior animator in the games industry with Activision / Treyarch on Call of Duty 7.”

Spread across two pages in Japan’s Famitsu magazine was an advertisement announcing a May 18th reveal of a brand new Kojima Productions project. The ad features an ominous, cloudy backdrop and a bleak field. Also, the date of 2009-5-18 graces the middle of the right-hand page along with a link to the reveal site.

Finally, Rockstar Games, developers of GTA IV, have confirmed that an upcoming announcement concerning a second release of DLC for the title is forthcoming. The announcement was made Thursday via the company’s brand new Twitter account. The entry simply stated, “Details on 2nd episode of GTAIV downloadable content coming soon.” Consequently, we have no hard news to report – not even an expected date – other than the official confirmation of the add-on’s development.

In terms of rumors, there really only was one of pressing import, but it is a doozy. On Tuesday, rumors began to swirl again about the existence of the PS3 Slim and its impending announcement at E3. On Thursday, the new unit was apparently confirmed via leaked photos . While the photos seem like they could be legitimate, no official confirmation has been made. Click HERE to check out the photos and decide for yourself.

Thanks so much everyone and we will see you next week!
