The Week in Review & Rumor Round-up: EA Sports Getting Ticky-Tack, Natal on the Horizon?, Sony Laying Claim, and More!

The Week in Review news piece summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related news and rumors over the past week. This weekly article will keep you plugged in and in-tune.

This week EA announced that their sports titles will now include a one-time use voucher, called Online Pass, that will give consumers of brand new copies of their games free access to online content, but force secondary purchasers to pay for access. The pass will cost $10 and will be implemented initially through Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11.

Microsoft denied rumors this week, spread by a “Microsoft Executive” in Saudi Arabia, Syed Bilal Tariq, that apparently, according to Microsoft, isn’t actually an employee, that Project Natal will be launched this October. According to a widely reported Microsoft statement, the false confirmation that was made was strictly speculation and the release window for the new tech is, officially, still Holiday 2010.

Good news for Sony: SCE has sold 35.7 million PS3 consoles worldwide as of March 2010. That means the PS3 only trails the Xbox 360 in terms of installed user base by around four to five million, and has reached the halfway point when compared to Nintendo Wii.

Also, Sony is currently shipping a new PlayStation 3 Slim model in North America. These PS3s, labeled “CECH-2101A”, have a smaller, more efficient 40nm RSX graphics chip that “allows the console to run cooler, consume less power, and, presumably, help Sony reduce manufacturing cost of the system,” even further. Older Slim models currently on store shelves use a 65nm chipset.

Activision has gone ahead and registered several new Call of Duty-related websites. In addition to CallofDutyFutureWarfare.com and CallofDutyFutureWarfare2 and 3, registered sites include derivations of “Advanced Warfare,” “Secret Warfare,” and even “Space Warfare.”

Finally, in an effort to appease PC gamers that took umbrage with Modern Warfare 2, the folks at Treyarch have come out and confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops will in fact have dedicated server support for PC gamers.

Thanks so much everyone and we will see you next week!
