The Week in Review & Rumor Round-up: Mass Effect 2 Coming to PS3, Insomniac Announces Two Games, New PS3 Models, and the PSP2 Possibly Shown Off

The Week in Review news piece is a weekly article that summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related news and rumors over the past week.

This week started off with a major announcement that many PS3 owners have been waiting for. Of course, I’m speaking of the reveal that Mass Effect 2 would be coming to Sony’s console. While the game won’t be able to make use of the importing of saved games, as the original still won’t be released for the PS3, BioWare is said to be building in a seamless transition into the game that will aid newcomers to the series. The PS3 version of the game will also be coming with “hours of bonus content.”

Insomniac made good on a couple rumors this week, announcing both a new Ratchet & Clank game as well as Resistance 3. Ratchet &Clank: All 4 One will be focused on cooperative play, having up to four players working together online or off. While Ratchet & Clank got the full reveal treatment, Resistance 3 was only shown off in a live action teaser trailer. From a sign visible in the trailer, we can expect the third installment in this series to take place in New York City.

Sony chose this week to make an announcement concerning two new PS3 models. The US will now officially be getting the 160GB and 320GB PS3s that were announced earlier last month for Japan. The 160 GB console is currently available and retails for the same price as the 120GB version, $299. However, the 320GB console will be coming in mid-September to coincide with the launch of Move as part of a bundle with the peripheral. For $399, the bundle will include a 320GB PS3, all the pieces required for Move, and a copy of Sports Champions.

Last but not least, it has been rumored that the PSP2 was shown to a few publisher behind closed doors. Three anonymous publishers claim to have been able to try out the handheld with each confirming it is roughly the same size as the PSP-3000, has a rich and detailed screen, and includes a “touch-sensitive area” on the back of the handheld. However, while they all agreed on these points, they differed on a possible release date, with one claiming it would be out by the end of 2011 and another insisting it might be a couple of years away.

That’s all for this week, be sure to check back next week.
