The Week in Review news piece is a weekly article that summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related news and rumors over the past week.

Sony was busy this week, announcing new PS3 models in Japan and beginning to plan out their next piece of hardware. New 320GB and 160GB versions of the PS3 were detailed for Japan, with a white version of the 160GB model also being slated for release on July 29th. Interestingly, these new PS3 models were announced the same day that Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida stated “we are undergoing many activities that we haven’t yet been talking about in public. Some future platform related activities.” Whether he was referring to a new PSP or home console is still unknown, but by the sounds of it, whatever it is will be made with game developers in mind.

Earlier this week, Microsoft finally outlined their plans for their annual Summer of Arcade event, where several high profile XBLA games come out in quick succession during the warmer months of the year. Starting on July 21st and ending on August 18th, Limbo, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, Monday Night Combat, and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will be made available in order and spaced seven days apart from one another.

Developer EA also got into the news this week, whether by announcing new games or by having details leak unexpectedly. EA announced both Dead Space Ignition, a prequel to the upcoming Dead Space 2 set for release this fall, and the much anticipated Dragon Age 2 coming March 2011. While these were planned announcements, the news that NBA Jam would likely not stay a Wii exclusive was not. According to a listing found on a German software ratings board, NBA Jam will be also be making its way to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

That’s all for this week, be sure to check back next week.
