There Are No Renegades or Paragons in Mass Effect: Andromeda

There Are No Renegades or Paragons in Mass Effect: Andromeda

In the original Mass Effect trilogy, your responses in conversations with characters tended to fall into one of two categories. You could be a Paragon, which was the “good guy” route, or a Renegade, the “bad guy” path. Mass Effect: Andromeda is abandoning those strict styles, though, and will instead offer options that will be focused on whether your Ryder agrees or disagrees with certain situations.

The idea was addressed in Official Xbox Magazine’ s interview with Mac Walters, Mass Effect: Andromeda’ s creative director. Walters said that Paragon and Renegade were irrevocably tied to Commander Shepard, and Ryder will be a more nuanced individual. Whether agree or disagree could be a right or wrong answer could vary, based on the situation, person Ryder is talking to, and decisions you’ve made leading up to that point. The game will instead of tones of voice for characters, offering between two and four sorts of responses in certain conversations.

I think this sounds like a good idea for Mass Effect: Andromeda . Letting us go with our gut, rather than be restricted by what could be “good” or “evil” seems like a step forward for the series. Especially since this installment seems more open than previous entries.
