It’s rumor time. You know the drill, folks. Grab your salt, put on your critical thinking caps, assume a skeptical-but-open frame of mind, and listen to the sound of my voice. You’ll just have to pretend for that last thing; my voice is smooth, of medium timbre, and I tend to speak slowly with a slight southern accent and subtle inflection. Let’s begin.
This time around we’re focusing on potential launch titles for the NX, which could include 4 of the most popular Wii U games. Those 4 games are Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Maker, Splatoon , and The Legend of Zelda. Smash and Zelda we feel pretty confident about at this point. As my colleague pointed out in this riveting Zelda rumor roundup , a simultaneous Wii U and NX launch for the new Legend of Zelda is all but confirmed. We also have Kantan Games CEO Dr. Serkan Toto stating that Smash is expected to be a launch title, so there’s a bit of credible corroboration there.
This would be the first we’ve heard of Splatoon and Super Mario Maker ports, but both games would obviously make sense. Once again, insider Emily Rogers is here to lend her affirmation that these rumors are credible, stating in a tweet: “The following Wii U ports in development for NX: Zelda, Smash Bros, Mario Maker, Splatoon.” Rogers goes on to point out that just because something is in development, doesn’t mean it’ll be released. I’ve also read reports on GAF that say Nintendo is having a tough time working out NX and Wii U cross-play for Splatoon , and they’re having a tougher time getting player data to transfer from Wii U to NX for Super Mario Maker . Stay tuned for all of the juiciest NX rumors; I’m a sucker for the hype.
