Total War: Shogun 2 Leaps Back In Time

Hankering for some Total War: Shogun 2 action, but bored with the same old feudal Japanese politics framing your bloody battles? In a press release issued today, SEGA promised a solution in the form of huge new DLC for the most recent Total War game.

Dubbed “Rise of the Samurai,” this content leaps back even further into the pages of history, setting players down 400 years before the civil war that forms the focal drama of Shogun 2. Based, instead, on the Gempei War, Rise of the Samurai chronicles a conflict between six separate clans from the three families of Taira, Minamoto, and Fujiwara. The war, as it played out historically, ended with the naming of the first nationwide Shogun and the beginning of the samurai’s tenure as the ruling class in Japan.

Playable in both single-player and multiplayer modes, players will take advantage of new units on both land and sea as they wage war, aided by four new hero units and an equal number of new agents. Will you be the first Shogun of Japan? Will the samurai even see their rise? Total War gamers will find out this September.
