Ubisoft Unveils New Rainbow Six Title

Ubisoft Unveils New Rainbow Six Title

None

It’s been a long time since we had a new Rainbow Six game to get excited about. The last was 2008’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and, after that, the series simply seemed to fade off the radar. Perhaps with the Tom Clancy series’ movement away from harsh realism and toward more futuristic, speculative, and cinematic gameplay, Ubisoft felt that it simply didn’t have a place for the down-to-earth anti-terrorism tactics of Team Rainbow.

That’s changing though. In a press release sent out today, Ubisoft revealed the production of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots. The title, slated for release in 2013, not only features a new spelling of the team’s name (with “6” as a number, instead of spelled out), but an “exciting new narrative direction.” In fact, Ubisoft creative director David Sears says the title “adds an unprecedented level of humanity that will make Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots an extremely tense and immersive experience.” Of course, we can expect the series to retain its focus on team work, realism, and tactics that have always defined it.

From the press release:

In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, Team Rainbow faces a new and very real threat called the “True Patriots,” a highly-trained, well-organized revolutionary group that claim the American government is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests. The True Patriots will do whatever it takes to reclaim their country. Playing as Team Rainbow, players will face critical scenarios that will require them to make tough ethical decisions in order to stop this new breed of terrorists.

It sounds like players will be making some moral choices, and possibly face a branching storyline. Additionally, Ubisoft promises a wealth of multi-player modes, as well as cooperative gameplay. Even there, the goal is to reward players to demonstrate good teamwork and communication, instead of twitch reflexes alone.
