Valve to Permanently Ban Competitive Match Fixers

Valve to Permanently Ban Competitive Match Fixers

Match-fixing is when one team, or players from a team, agree to lose in exchange for money. Usually, the incentive is provided by gamblers who know they can win big if they can guarantee a sure thing. We’ve seen the stories as they pertain to boxing, but it’s also an issue in professional gaming. Valve is taking steps to manage this in Counter Strike: Go.

Players caught participating in match fixing will receive a permanent ban from competitive play in Valve-sponsored tournaments. Valve says they want to maintain the integrity of the tournaments to keep them fun and competitive.

This comes as a response to an investigation last year where a small number of professional players were discovered to be cheating for profit. The response then was to ban them permanently, and now it seems that is the official stance going forward. Don’t fix matches, or you will have to find another way to make money playing video games.
