Video Channel Wii-Bound

Video Channel Wii-Bound

None

According to Nikkei Business Daily via Reuters, Nintendo will team up with ad agency Dentsu Inc to launch a video distribution service on the Wii. The service is supposed to be an official channel for Wii rather than added on Wiiware.

The two companies will create original cartoons and “other entertainment programs created for the new service to differentiate it from other online content delivery operations.” Of course, the original video content will include classic Nintendo IPs, but it will also likely include anime and more.

Price structure and storage restrictions have not been addressed. However, this is to be a new stream of revenue for both Nintendo and Dentsu, so price will be part of the video channel’s equation. Likewise, saving the videos to SD cards is unlikely. Look for streaming video to be the norm.

Nintendo and Dentsu will begin the service in the beginning of 2009 in Japan, and launched worldwide later in the year.
