Will Halo 4 Be Bone-Dry?

Will Halo 4 Be Bone-Dry?

None

The Halo series, from its inception, has had two primary enemies for players to face:

  • The Covenant: a collection of alien races brought together by religious fervor, in pursuit of a common goal. Colorful (especially their luminescent blood) and varied, with lizard-like Elites, short and stocky Grunts, wily Jackals, impenetrable Hunters and gorilla-esque Brutes. There are also some bug things that swarm you sometimes, but they’re pretty brainless.

  • The Flood: Halo’s version of zombies. Brown, twisted forms of other creatures that have been infected and corrupted, transmogrified into grotesque caricatures of their former selves and possessed of a single-minded desire for your destruction.

Halo 4 is all about breaking the established rules of the series, but, in a sense, the Covenant will still be returning, as at least some of their component races will be present in the new game’s campaign. The Flood, however, shall not.

According to a post on the Halo Waypoint forums by Frank O’Connor, the Franchise Development Director for Halo, “You won’t be fighting Flood in Halo 4.”

That said, while you won’t be fighting them, is it possible that they’ll still make an appearance in some other capacity? Only time will tell.
