Xbox Has Five More Years, Red Ring Go Away

Xbox Has Five More Years, Red Ring Go Away

None

According to what Microsoft’s European boss, Chris Lewis, recently conveyed to GamesIndustry.biz, we won’t be seeing a successor to the Xbox 360 until 2015 at the earliest.

Lewis stated “What you’ve seen with this new sleek design and Kinect for Xbox 360 we’ve got at least another five years of this generation where we continue to offer great experiences for people.”

This is certainly good news for anyone thinking about running out to purchase the Xbox 360 Slim redesign, as their consoles might just have a chance to survive through the entire five years. While the red rings of death issue is now officially a thing of the past due to the Slim 360 no longer having any lighted rings with which to display it, the redesigned hardware is also supposed to be much better at trying to prevent the actual overheating problems that caused this hardware failure. Thanks to some pictures taken from NeoGAF and Ngadget, we’re able to see that if the new Slim 360 is in danger of overheating, the system will display a warning and then power down the system in order to limit potential hardware damage. While this may not seem ideal for your console to turn off in the middle of gameplay, it does seem quite preferable to losing your console for an entire month in order to get a refurbished unit back from Microsoft.
