Xbox One Connection Requirements Not Entirely Removed

Though much next-gen apprehension has been laid to rest following Microsoft’s recent Xbox One policy turnaround, a new statement from Xbox One chief product officer Marc Whitten offers an important point regarding the connectivity requirements of the system.

As Don Mattrick’s official statement showed, “An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games.” However, “you have to go online to get the software update for day one, then you wouldn’t have to be connected after that,” Whitten later clarified. Luckily, the Xbox One’s definition of “a connection” is very lenient. “Any way that you can get connectivity to the Live service would work to enable that to come down to the console.”

Whitten also commented on the relevance of the console’s Kinect system, detailed here .
