Xbox One Outsells PS4 for Third Consecutive Month

Microsoft and Sony are competing more fiercely than ever these days. Despite Phil Spencer stating his distaste for all of the “console war” rhetoric, the Xbox team has been very vocally celebrating the Xbox One’s latest advantages over the PS4. Now they have a truly astounding milestone to celebrate. It seems as though the Xbox One has outsold Sony’s PS4 for the third straight month in a row.

This is according to September’s NPD data (via WCCF Tech ). Strong sales are being attributed to a number of factors. Microsoft’s newly released Xbox One S has been performing really well, and offering gamers HDR gaming, 4K streaming, and 4K Blu-Ray capabilities ahead of Sony’s PS4 Pro release. Additionally, the standard Xbox One model has seen a few aggressive price reductions in the weeks following the announcement and release of the Xbox One S. At one point it was possible to score a brand new Xbox One from Target’s website for $180.

While Sony has released its slimmer PS4, we expect sales to stagnate somewhat until the release of the PS4 Pro, which boasts a GPU more than three times more powerful than what you’ll find in the Xbox One. Whether or not consumers will be willing to pay a premium to upgrade remains to be seen.
