Zelda’s Timeline Canonized?

Zelda’s Timeline Canonized?

None

The Hyrule Historia was announced a week or so back, but few details on the presently Japan-exclusive “Anniversary Collector’s Book” had made their way out the door. Today, that has changed. With the release of promotional images, including part of the table of contents, Nintendo has revealed that the book will contain a history of Hyrule.

This includes not only the timeline of the kingdom itself, but what appears to be a chronological description of the major Zelda adventures, from Skyward Sword up through Wind Waker.

Gamers have long held many theories about how the Zelda series’ timeline might be resolved, often settling on a split-timeline theory springing from the events of Ocarina of Time. Nintendo has always—despite constant assertions from naysayers that the Zelda games play fast and loose with any inkling of continuity—held that there exists an internal document chronicling the entirety of the Legend of Zelda’s timeline, from beginning to end, outlining each individual game’s place thereupon. Is this book to be our first glimpse at that history?

Those who can read Japanese will find out when the book releases in Japan on Wednesday, December 21.
