EA is serious about competing with Steam when it comes to their new digital download service Origin. The service already has millions of subscribers, but for now it has only been used to deliver EA games. Now, EA’s game library is rather vast, so this isn’t much of a problem. However, Origin senior VP David DeMartini has announced that Warner Bros, THQ, and Capcom will be the first third-party developers to offer their games over Origin. Which games will they be offering? Well, the first games that have been announced are Batman: Arkham City and Saints Row: The Third. Nothing specific has been announced for Capcom yet.
As much as EA might be trying to compete with Steam, that’s not how they see it. Instead, they are trying to market themselves as a fully independent digital distribution service that listens to its users and other third-party developers. Well with six-million users so far, they are on the right track. By Angelo M. D’Argenio |
