EA Blames Support Policies For Crysis Ban

None

A while back, Crysis 2 was suddenly dropped from Steam. At the time, most people thought it was because EA was going to make the game an “Origin only” title (Origin being their new direct download service.) However, when the game stuck around on services such as Direct2Drive, it appeared as if the situation was more complicated than that. EA says that the game was pulled due to the way it was patched and updated.

David DeMartini, Electronic Arts’ senior vice president of global e-commerce elaborates: “We always want to be sure we provide this content and service at the highest possible level of quality. To ensure this, any retailer can sell our games, but we take direct responsibility for providing patches, updates, additional content and other services to our players. Unfortunately, if we’re not allowed to manage this experience directly and establish a relationship with you, it disrupts our ability to provide the support you expect and deserve.”

Supposedly EA’s Crysis 2 update arrangement was suitable for all download services other than Steam in “special circumstances,” and that resulted in its removal from the Steam lineup. However DeMartini made it obvious that this was not due to a lack of desire for EA to have the game on Steam, stating: “We offer our games to every major download service, including Amazon, Gamestop, and Steam.”
