Far Cry 6 DLC: An In-Depth Look at Yara’s Extended Journey

Far Cry 6 Summary

Far Cry 6 is an open-world first-person shooter developed by Ubisoft Toronto and released in 2021. The game takes place on the fictional island of Yara, inspired by Cuban environments and politics. The country is run by Anton Castillo, a dictator who goes by the name El Presidente. Players follow Dani Rojas, a guerilla fighter who seeks to topple Castillo’s regime.

At release, there were mixed reactions from fans and critics, with some praise for improvements over its predecessors. However, most criticized the lack of innovation and the unused potential for its story. It was nominated for multiple industry awards but couldn’t pull a win for any of them.

Far Cry 6 DLC

Far Cry 6  has extensive DLC available for fans. Players can pick up the Starter Pack for $24.99, three villain story modes for $14.99 each, and Lost Between Worlds for $19.99. There is also the Game of the Year Upgrade Pass for $59.99 and the Season Pass for $39.99. These can all be bought on your platforms’ store and downloaded to your system. But let’s break down each DLC so you know what you are getting.

DLC Episodes

Each DLC episode allows the player to take on the role of the villain from previous Far Cry titles. Insanity follows Vaas from Far Cry 3 on a journey throughout the Rook Islands. In Control, players take the calm and composed Pagan Min on a quest through Kayrat. Finally, Collapse has you step inside Joseph Seed’s head as you explore Hope County from Far Cry 5.

The episodes will take around 2-3 hours to complete, depending on how thorough players are. They offer new views into old villains and a die-and-retry mechanic as you attempt to escape your own mind.

Starter Pack

The Starter Pack is almost fully cosmetic, featuring a pirate outfit, a charm, Far Cry Credits, and a unique gun. Below is everything that is included in the pack.

  • Swashbuckler’s Tricorne (Head Gear)
  • Swashbuckler’s Doublet (Chest Gear)
  • Swashbuckler’s Breeches (Leg Gear)
  • Swashbuckler’s Boots (Foot Gear)
  • Swashbuckler’s Charm (Wrist Gear)
  • Jackdaw (Weapon)
  • Cursed Lantern (Charm)
  • Beakaneer (Mirror Prop)
  • 2,300 Far Cry Credits

Lost Between Worlds

Lost Between Worlds is a polarizing expansion due to how it strays away from the original Far Cry formula. The DLC takes the player through a gauntlet of 15 rifts complete with enemies, traps, and multiple paths. Maps have shortcuts to unlock, with upgrades along the way. What players dislike is the sci-fi and fantasy theme given to the maps, as it doesn’t represent the base game at all.

Season Pass

  • Three Villain Epsidoes
  • Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Classic Edition

Game of the Year Upgrade Pass

  • Lost Between Worlds
  • Season Pass
  • Jungle Expedition Pack
  • Croc Hunter Pack
  • Vice Pack
Gain new perspectives and understanding of previous Far Cry villains.

Is Far Cry 6 Worth the Money?

The Far Cry 6 DLC is absolutely worth the money if you are a franchise fan. However, while the expansions are exciting and provide unique gameplay experiences exclusive to the franchise, it’s best to wait for a sale. Three of the DLCs focus on previous antagonists from past titles, giving insight into their minds and actions. Replayability is lacking, as you are only getting a couple of hours of content. The same applies to Lost Between Worlds, as you get around 4-5 hours of gameplay but rarely return to play it. It’s also not included in the Season Pass but is in the Game of the Year Upgrade Pass.

If you are a fan of previous titles and want to gain more insight into the villains, then go for it. While players have issues with the base game, the DLC can be fun and bring back memories. As I mentioned, getting all the expansions can be pricey, so wait for a sale.

Far Cry 6 DLC Tips and Tricks

While there aren’t many requirements to play the Far Cry 6 DLC, there are a couple. To play Lost Between Worlds, players will need to advance far enough to get off the starting island. Once off, the DLC can be accessed from the main world.

You’ll need to travel to a guerrilla camp in Yara to access the villain episodes. Once there, go inside the large, central building and find the television. You’ll see the antagonists on the screen, and interacting with the TV will give you the option to begin.
