Crysis II Gets “Expelled”

Crysis II Gets “Expelled”

None

Yesterday, we reported on Crysis II becoming an “Origin only” game. For those of you who don’t know, Origin is EA’s new digital distribution platform. Shortly after the game was announced as “Origin only,” we saw the game removed from Steam, but many were confused as the game could still be found on many other direct download platforms like Direct2Drive. Well, EA shed some light on this situation.

EA said that it was actually Steam’s “business terms” that resulted in Crysis II being removed from the platform. A statement from the EA read “Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service – many of which are not imposed by other online game services. Unfortunately, Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis II from Steam.” It went on to say, “It’s unfortunate that Steam has removed Crysis II from their service. This was not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA … Crysis II continues to be available on several other download services including Origin.com.”
