Crysis 2 Pulled From Steam

Crysis 2 Pulled From Steam

None

About a half a year ago, we heard reports that certain companies may start boycotting Steam in order to foster the development of other competing digital distribution platforms. Well, we may have thought it was nothing more than a bunch of studios whining about Valve’s success, but more recent reports show that this may actually be happening.

Recently, Crysis 2 was pulled from Steam. This could very well be part of a marketing strategy that will push EA’s new Origin download service. According to EA, Crysis 2 will only be offered on Origin. However, you can still find Crysis 2 on Direct 2 Drive, Impulse, Amazon, and plenty of other direct download services. So we aren’t entirely sure if those services just haven’t been hit yet, or if Steam was singled out by EA as the leading competitor.

As for now, many EA games are still available through Steam, including Bulletstorm, Dragon Age II, and Shift 2 Unleashed. However, more recent releases like Alice: Madness Returns are not. We will have to wait and see if games like the upcoming Battlefield 3 hit the Steam platform, or if they too will be “Origin only” titles.
