Battlefield 3 Ratifies Its Digital Distribution Plans

Battlefield 3 Ratifies Its Digital Distribution Plans

None

Last month, there was speculation that Battlefield 3 would not appear on Steam. The title is one of EA’s largest and would be a massive draw for the company’s new Origin service if it were to remain an Origin exclusive. Thankfully, for those who aren’t comfortable with having a publisher-exclusive digital distribution client on their computers, EA has released the full list of Battlefield 3 digital distribution platforms. Origin is far from alone. Steam, however, is nowhere to be seen, confirming reports last month of its absence.

The list, available on the Battlefield 3 website, is divided up between the North American region and the various countries of Europe. North America’s options are:

  • Origin

  • GameStop

  • Impulse

  • Direct2Drive
  • Amazon
  • Best Buy
  • Gamersgate

Is the absence of Steam a result of shaky relations between the two companies? Could Valve have pre-emptively nixed Battlefield 3 due to forthcoming DLC plans, the supposed impetus behind the Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2 pulls? As supposition grows and Battlefield 3 nears release, it seems probable that someone will issue a statement on the matter. Until then, we can only wait and see.
