It’s that time of year again: The Game Awards are this Thursday, and host Geoff Keighley took to Twitter to build the anticipation by telling us to expect 10 world premieres. The Game Awards aren’t really known for being a compelling awards show, per se; yes, awards are handed out and you’ll likely see wide coverage for the GOTY award, but most people tune in for the tributes, juicy reveals, and new trailers.
With so much in store for 2016, we can’t help but wonder what surprises are in store. In the latest Nintendo Direct we got a very brief peek at some new Zelda Wii U footage. Actually, it’s hard to call it new footage; it was just Link on a horse. With such a wide viewership, the Game Awards could just be the perfect place to show off a new trailer or even some gameplay. It’s hard to predict, though. These premieres could take shape any number of ways: as images, announcements, trailers, gameplay footage, demos, season pass announcements… With this in mind I’m trying to keep my expectations low, but you can bet I’ll be tuning in on Twitch.
