2011 VGAs: Skyrim Wins Game Of The Year

2011 VGAs: Skyrim Wins Game Of The Year

None

This weekend, SPIKE TV held their annual Video Game Awards, handing out awards to the best video games of 2011. The most coveted award of the night, Game of the Year, went out to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The game also took home an award for Best RPG, and developer Bethesda Game Studios won Studio of the Year.

But Skyrim wasn’t the only game to win big. Portal 2 cleaned up, with awards in Best PC Game, Best Multiplayer, Best DLC, Best Performance by a Human Male (Stephen Merchant as Wheatley), and Best Performance by a Human Female (Ellen McLain as GLaDOS). Though the winners of the last two of these are indeed human, it might be just a tad bit ironic that they both portray A.I. characters in the game.

Batman: Arkham City was another big winner, winning Best Action Adventure Game, Best Xbox 360 Game, and Best Adapted Video Game. Oh yeah, and Mark Hamill’s Joker took home Character of the Year.

Other notable awards went out to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for Best Shooter, Uncharted 3 for Best PS3 Game, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for Best Wii Game, and Minecraft for Best Independent Game.

Of course, SPIKE TV isn’t the only outfit to be handing out video game awards this year. Check out Cheat Code Central’s own 5th Annual Cody Awards ; some of the winners may surprise you.
