2011 VGAs: Zelda Enters The Hall Of Fame

None

If there is one criticism of the SPIKE TV Video Game Awards, it’s that they cater to a very specific demographic. Gritty shooters and action games have always been the winners of basically every award they have to offer. Of course, these are SPIKE’s VGAs, and you could argue that the awards are appropriate for SPIKE’s audience.

But SPIKE broke the mold yesterday by opening up the door to its brand new Hall of Fame for important and influential games of our time. The first inductee was not Halo, nor was it Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, or any of the other mega-influential shooters of our era. Instead, it was The Legend of Zelda, one of the most iconic video game franchises of all time.

On top of the Hall of Fame induction—which included a speech by a widely smiling Shigeru Miyamoto—The Legend of Zelda won some awards for its newest title, Skyward Sword. It took home both the Best Wii Game and Best Motion Control Game.
