3G Vita Pricing Plan Modified

3G Vita Pricing Plan Modified

None

When the Vita was first announced, we were all excited to be able to play our games online on the road whenever we wanted over a 3G network. Then Sony announced that there would be bandwidth caps on their Vita pricing plans and the wind was taken out of our sales. Originally, the two options would be $14.99 a month for 250MB, or $24.99 a month for 2GB. However, Sony has recently revealed their final pricing plan, and it turns out the high-end data plan had gotten a bit better. Now, the plan calls for $30 for 3GB. That’s a simple five dollar increase for a whole extra gigabyte of data.

Unfortunately, this does cause a problem. It creates a bigger split between the low end data plan and the high end data plan. So if you want to use, say, 300 MB of data, you’ll have to splurge for the whole 3GB.

So who will be using the 3G Vita? It’s a hefty investment, with both the handheld itself costing more upfront and the monthly fee. Not only that, but most places you would be actually playing games already have Wi-Fi. So unless you take the bus a lot, 3G seems pretty unnecessary. Heck, if you have the money to afford a 3G Vita, you probably have your own car anyway.
