The Vita Gets A Price Cut In The US

The Vita Gets A Price Cut In The US

After the Vita received a price cut on Japanese territories, sales for the little handheld went through the roof. They increased by a factor of four and have finally been giving the 3DS a run for its money. Prior to this price-cut, Sony said that it had no plans to cut the price in American territories and that decisions like this were made on a region by region basis. However, the Japanese sales bump was undeniable, so now it appears as if the American Vita is following suit, but perhaps not due to any action by Sony.

Many US stores have begun cutting the price of the Vita’s 3G model to just under 200 dollars. That’s a 100 dollar cut. Why? Rumor has it that Sony will be discontinuing the 3G model soon, so it’s a clearance sale of sorts. Even if you don’t want to spring for a 3G plan, the 3G Vita can still do everything the Wi-Fi Vita can do. So if you just want a Wi-Fi model at a reduced price, you might as well pick one up.

Sony has not yet commented on the price-cut or the discontinuation rumor. However, if the rumor is true then it would support yet another rumor that says Sony is looking to upgrade their Vita network to 4G.
