Activision is famously known for three things: Call of Duty, Skylanders, and a ton of licensed titles. Ok, they are also known for Starcraft and Warcraft if you include their Blizzard games, but that’s not the point.
Well it appears as if Activision has finally started listening to the gaming public; no one cares about licensed titles. As a result, Activision will be launching fewer games based on third party licenses this next year. Instead, it will be focusing on its major blockbuster titles, as well as DLC for those titles.
Unfortunately, this change in direction also comes with a few, painful cuts. The company is letting around 30 employees go. These 30 employees come from several Activision studios including some of the big ones, like Treyarch. Luckily, this isn’t nearly as devastating as other layoffs we have seen. These 30 employees account for less than one percent of the company’s overall workforce.
