Age Old BioWare Forums Hacked

None

The rampant rash of hacking continues today, with the report of an intrusion into the server associated with BioWare’s Neverwinter Nights forum. According to BioWare’s official statement on the incident, made by studio GM of BioWare Edmonton Aaryn Flynn, approximately 18,000 accounts may have been compromised, granting hackers access to these accounts’ names, passwords, e-mail addresses, and birth dates.

Aaryn is clear that no credit card information was accessed, and that sensitive data, such as social security numbers, are neither possessed nor stored by the company. Furthermore, accounts that may have been affected have had their owners e-mailed and either been disabled or had the related EA Account’s password reset. Aaryn further states that users who can still log in with their existing passwords are not thought to be compromised, but still suggests changing one’s password regularly as a general measure of account security. Similar passwords one might use on other sites should be changed as well.

There’s been no word yet on whether this is tied to the other hacks of gaming company sites and services that have hit this week.
