Amazon Users Voted the PS2 as the Greatest Console Ever

Amazon Users Voted the PS2 as the Greatest Console Ever

Sony’s PlayStation 2 officially discontinued back in early 2013, which marked the end of its 13-year run in the market. It’s still remembered today as a highly successful console in its own right, as well as at least one of the first consoles players may remember as part of their lives if they were around at the turn of the millenium onwards.

Now, according to a recent survey reported by MCV, the PlayStation 2 has been given another reason to be commemorated: the greatest console ever.

This is the opinion of Amazon customers who voted for the console as such during a polling session that took place between Monday, August 18 and Sunday, October 5. However, specific numbers of how many Amazon customers took part in the poll were not detailed.

On the other hand, though, the PlayStation 2 was only one of 15 other consoles that made it to the final stages of the poll, including the Xbox and PlayStation family, as well as the Nintendo 64, GameCube, DreamCast, SEGA Mega Drive and more. Out of all of the, it was the PlayStation 2 and its predecessor, the PlayStation One, that tied for the title. Ultimately, the PlayStation 2 was crowned as the greatest console ever. Consoles that didn’t make it to the final stages were not included in the final knock-out stages.

Other points of interest about the survey show that the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 2’s much younger sibling, received more votes than all of the SEGA consoles combined; the PC was just nine votes short of making it to the knock-out stages; the Magnavox Odyssey, a console from the early 70s, was the oldest console to receive a vote; and, despite it not carrying on to the final stages of the poll, the Game Boy received more votes than any other handheld.

We’ll bring you more news on videogame consoles and more should further information reach our ears.
