Andy Serkis Confirmed for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The old interwebs blew up over the holiday weekend with the arrival of an all-new Star Wars teaser. Depicting a very different take on our familiar galaxy, one question rang out in people’s minds most; who was behind the narrator’s creepy voice?

Good Morning America recently confirmed what many have assumed for several months now. Lord of the Rings star Andy Serkis is in-fact playing two pivotal roles. The first will naturally be in a motion-capture capacity (which he made legendary with characters such as Golem and Caesar from Planet of the Apes ). The second will be as an on-screen character as well. It’s described as a “…pivotal role in the first act story arc that entwines with Daisy Ridley’s backstory that may have more to it than it seems in the first instance.”

Actor John Boyega also posted to Instagram , thanking fans for the outpouring of support and taking a thinly-veiled shot at racism in the process. In regards to a black person being featured in such a prominent role in the Star Wars franchise (Lando Calrissian), Boyega’s note states “To whom it may concern…get used to it.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters a little over one year from now.
