Arc System Works Is Making a 3D Dragon Ball Z Fighting Game

Arc System Works, the company behind Blazblue , Guilty Gear , Persona 4 Arena , and many other well-known fighting games, is making a 2D fighting game based on Dragon Ball Z . Maybe now people can finally have the 2D DBZ fighter they always wanted.

The game will be called Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden . It will feature over 100 Dragon Ball Z characters, with assist characters as well. It will feature both one on one and team style battles, though it’s not clear whether or not this will be tag team style, like the Marvel vs . series, or rotation style, like King of Fighters . Characters will be capable of numerous special moves, as well as “Ultimate Arts” which will be a style of finisher, much like insta-kills and astral finishes in other Arc System Works games.

However, don’t go grabbing for your arcade stick just yet. Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden will be a 3DS-only release. We can only hope some version of the game will eventually come to the big screen.

Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden is set to launch in Japan this summer. It has yet to be confirmed for an American release.
