Are You Ready for the Next Generation?

None

Clear your head of all that PSP2 business. Sony announced yesterday that its next handheld gaming device would be codenamed the NGP, or Next Generation Portable. And this thing is everything we dreamed it would be, featuring two cameras, two dual analog sticks, a touch-screen interface, and backward compatibility with the PSP.

And yes, it will have Wi-fi, Bluetooth, or 3G capabilities, though the details on exactly how this will work are still unclear. It’s beginning to look like there will be different versions of the NGP, each outfitted for a different type of connectivity.

Sound expensive? Well, Sony promised that they “will shoot for an affordable price that’s appropriate for the handheld gaming space.” What “affordable price” means is anyone’s guess, but so far the NGP is looking mighty sexy.

The NGP, or whatever they decide to call it, should be here in time for the 2011 holiday season, but an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet.
