Batman Turns 75; What Does DC Have Planned?

You’d think turning the big 7-5 would slow down a guy who dresses like a giant flying rodent, but not this crime fighter! Now DC reveals how they plan to celebrate such a huge milestone.

With such an iconic character, which first made his appearance back in 1939, one day simply isn’t enough to mark this momentous occasion. So in a recent press release, DC revealed that we’ll see an entire YEAR of Bat-appreciation!

“… Highlights of the anniversary program,” it reads, ”…include a new commemorative 75th anniversary Batman logo and an exclusive “Cape/Cowl/Create” art exhibit, featuring 20 contemporary artists’ interpretation of The Dark Knight’s iconic cowl headpiece and cape from the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight videogame.”

With his legendary run in the comics–not to mention spinning off hundreds of millions of dollars in film, television and toy/merchandise–Batman could easily be considered one of the great characters of all time. Diane Nelson (who is President of DC Entertainment) touts the icons appeal across the board with hardcore fans and non-comic readers alike. “The origin of Batman, Bruce Wayne and the famous citizens of Gotham are legendary and likely a story you know inside out, even if you’ve never picked up a comic book in your life, and that speaks volumes to the character’s immense popularity and the constructs of the original mythology.” She beams.

Just some of the upcoming activities planned for 2014 include a film release entitled Son of Batman , behind-the-scenes coverage of the Batman/Superman crossover and even new episodes of the 90’s animated series cartoon (just to name a few)!
