Want to make huge money providing voiceovers for video games? Enter the Voice Over Xtravaganza (VOX) contest and you could win your way to an incredible career. VOX is looking for several talented actors who are interested in earning more than a hundred-grand a year. The best of the best will win an instant $250,000. Tons of prizes will be awarded to participants including complete home recording studios. We’ve all complained about some of the terrible acting we’ve experienced while playing some otherwise great games. Now here’s a chance to do something about it. Select a scene from a game that you think is in need of an overhaul. Replace the original recorded dialogue with your own, and upload it to the online VOX website. A huge selection of game scenes and recording software will be made available online, in addition to some scripts for you to read from. All you need is a microphone, and some talent. More ambitious contestants with the technical know-how can use any scene from any game and even write and dub their own dialogue using the software and hardware of their choice. “We’re looking for someone with magic in his or her voice,” says VOX founder Tim Widdle. “It could be they do one voice really well, or impersonate a multitude of characters and accents. We won’t know what we’re looking for until we hear it,” chuckles Widdle. “We will be awarding recording studios to the other winners, so in the future they can work from the comfort and convenience of their home. They’ll be emailed scripts, and when they finish recording their dialogue, they simply FTP the recording to the developer and await their bountiful check. It’s an easy and fun way to make a great living,” Widdle sighs. VOX is open to everyone, regardless of age or location, as the voiceovers can be recorded anywhere in the world. The judges suggest you record in a quiet environment, with as clear and clean a signal as possible. Keep your mouth only a few inches from the microphone when talking normally, pulling away to compensate for an increase in volume during more dramatic scenes.
