Bethesda Rumors Abound

Bethesda Rumors Abound

None

It wouldn’t be a news day in the video game industry without a Skyrim story, but this one has a strange little twist. Over the last 24 hours, an interesting rumor has been percolating regarding the possibility of an Elder Scrolls MMO.

A source close to Bethesda has indicated that the developer is currently working on an upcoming MMO, which will take place several hundred years before any of the previous Elder Scrolls titles. The game is supposedly earmarked for a May release, but that seems pretty unlikely in my mind.

Actually, this whole rumor has a pretty rotten smell to it. The majority of gamers who purchased Skyrim picked up a copy for their Xbox 360 or PS3. So, if Bethesda is planning to release an MMO, only a fraction of their existing player base will even be interested in it. And when you start to factor in the effects that WoW and The Old Republic would have, the player base becomes even smaller.

Also, do people really want to pay a monthly fee to play a game that will inevitably be full of gigantic bugs?

In other Bethesda-related news: a recent job posting seems to indicate that the developer is planning to dive into iOS game development. “Bethesda Game Studios is looking for experienced iOS programmers for unannounced games,” the posting reads.

If you’re interested in submitting an application, the company is looking for someone who has experience developing multiple iOS titles and has “extensive experience programming in Objective C.”

So, update that resume with whatever lies you think will get an interview. Good luck.
