Blizzard Issues World Of Warcraft Security Warning

Blizzard Issues World Of Warcraft Security Warning

World of Warcraft recently suffered a spike in unauthorized account logins. As a result, Blizzard has issued a security warning for all players.

Two days ago, the web and mobile auction houses were taken offline for emergency maintenance after players reported that all of their in-game items and gold were missing. The Mobile Armory was, apparently, used to siphon player money by spending it on incredibly overpriced, low-quality items on the auction house, thus transferring their gold to another player. It’s sort of like a digital version of money laundering.

Blizzard is currently in the process of e-mailing all players whose accounts suffered unauthorized access. Players who are affected can request an account reset to a previous state. Blizzard also urges World of Warcraft players to change their password frequently. Anyone who had their account accessed without their permission should change their password immediately.

Currently, the Mobile Armory app still cannot access the auction house, though Blizzard is working quickly to resolve the security issue.
