Blizzard Sues StarCraft II Cheater

Blizzard Sues StarCraft II Cheater

None

Although cheating in online games is an unfortunate experience, rarely do developers pursue offenders beyond banning them from the gaming service. However, Blizzard is going the extra mile for its user base and is taking legal action against the originators of one of the more devastating cheats in StarCraft II. The suit alleges that the three people responsible for creating the cheat intended to ” modify (and in fact destroy) the StarCraft II online game experience.” They also allege that the game code used to make the hacks qualifies as copyright infringement, and are seeking damages equal to the amount of money the three hackers profited making the game. Although none of the hackers are US-based (one is in Canada, the other two are in Peru), the suit will be heard in a Los Angeles-based court.
