Activision Blizzard Fights Back

Activision Blizzard Fights Back

None

After all the buzz that fan-made MMO World of StarCraft was getting this week, it was inevitable that Activision Blizzard would step in. The pretty video showing gameplay footage of this project has been removed from YouTube after Activision Games issued copyright infringement notices.

It is unknown whether or not World of StarCraft creator will continue the project under a different title, but he has posted this statement: “If Blizzard/Activision doesn’t want this to happen, then it won’t. This game HAS to be pumped through the veins of battle.net to work. I hope and pray that we can come to an understanding here. If they want the name changed, then I’ll change it.”

In an unrelated case, Blizzard has also filed copyright infringement suits against three StarCraft II players who were apparently selling hacks for the game. There have been over 5,000 recent Battle.net bans, which are assumed to be due to these hacks.
