Blizzard Updating Warcraft III

Blizzard Updating Warcraft III

After retooling and remastering the original StarCraft , Blizzard is now tinkering with another of its legacy titles, this time WarCraft III . These updates are significant, and following the announcement that Blizzard and the WarCraft community are holding an Invitational tournament series for the game.

The list of changes will be first added to WarCraft III ’s Public Test Realm, and are pretty huge changes. There will be balance tweaks and changes to the map pool, but the number of players that can play in a custom game is also being doubled, from 12 to 24. Widescreen support is also being implemented.

Blizzard is also making changes to WarCraft III ’s editor, largely increasing many of the mode’s limitations, ranging from map size to resource limits. This was the tool originally used to create Defense of the Ancients , as Kotaku points out, so these changes could have a lot of potential for more intense, user-generated content.

The last time Blizzard messed around with an older game, StarCraft , eventually led to a separate release of a remastered version. There’s no indication yet that a WarCraft III remaster is coming, but we all know that could change in an instant. In the meantime, check out the Back2Warcraft Twitch channel from February 27-28 to tune into the WarCraft III Invitational.
