Borderlands 2’s Homebrewed Woes

Borderlands 2’s Homebrewed Woes

Borderlands 2 has had some technical issues out of the gate that have left its players frustrated and, in some cases, understandably furious. The game has, from the outset, had issues with resetting some players’ Badass ratings, a problem that gained increased scrutiny in the wake of the Mechromancer pack’s release. Then there was the reveal that some future DLC has been outsourced, which strikes a chord. Now, people are having their games outright broken.

At least this time it’s not anything Gearbox did.

A glitch, called Graveyard, has been passing around by way of pick-up games, in which players join forces with random gamers. The glitch turns ones save file into “graveyard.sav” and makes it so that, when one dies in Fight For Your Life mode, their character fails to respawn. This glitch apparently sprung out of the game’s mod community, after which it spread like an epidemic. The code can be removed by a modder, but it involves sending them your save file, which could also expose your personal information (and thus is not recommended).

That said, backing up your save game is probably the best precaution for now, along with being careful who you play with. If the glitch does manifest, you can quit out to the main menu, hit “continue,” and, upon loading, hit “Save and Quit,” which will often salvage one’s save (though this must be done every time one experiences the glitch from thereon out).

So far, the glitch is only known to affect Xbox 360 and PC players. Gearbox is reportedly researching the issue, but there has been no official statement as of yet.
