Civilization VI Arrives October 21

2K and Firaxis Games have announced Civilization VI is on the way, and will be available for PC on October 21 (sharing a launch day with Battlefield 1 ). It’s been six years since the last mainline Civilization game, and fans are ready for something new. According to Dennis Shirk, lead producer for Civ VI , a lot of the new mechanics introduced in Civilization V will be carried over to the new game, and the same team from Civ V is handling the development of Civ VI . That means for long-time fans there will be plenty of novelty and new concepts to get used to.

Civ V veterans will have to get used to playing the land in new, more resourceful ways. Cities and armies will now be spread out over multiple tiles instead of being concentrated into one space. This will force players to consider how they’ll balance development, expansion, defense, and preservation of natural resources to maintain happiness. According to Shirk, “One city can only go out three tiles in all directions. One city with maximum land can’t build every Wonder. If you build every district in one city, you will not have enough farmland to support your population. You have to make these decisions city by city. We are unstacking the cities and taking that to the nth degree.” I haven’t played a Civilization game since Civ IV , so I’ll be excited to check this one out come October.
