Recently, GameSpy announced that its online matchmaking service would be closing down at the end month on Saturday, May 31, taking with it a lot of online capabilities across a wide range of games both old and older.
Since the announcement, Electronic Arts has been updating its list of games that will be affected by the closure. The publisher is also currently trying to find out a way to keep GameSpy’s services up and running once the provider shuts down, but technical challenges–as well as concerns for player experience–are making it difficult for EA to come up with a solution at this time.
Until it finds a solution, online services for EA’s GameSpy-powered games will close on Monday, June 30.
“ Since GameSpy’s announcement, our teams have been working to evaluate options to keep services up and running. Unfortunately, due to technical challenges and concerns about the player experience, we do not have a solution at this time. Online services for EA games on the GameSpy platform will be closed down at the end of June, ” EA wrote in a post on its website.
“ We are still investigating community-supported options to preserve online functionality for these titles, such as multiplayer. Significant technical hurdles remain, and at this time we don’t have anything to announce, ” the publisher added.
In the latest update of games that’ll be affect by GameSpy’s closure, EA has added Battlefield 2, Battlefield 1942, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and some Command & Conquer games to the list of EA games that’ll be affected when the service shuts down.
