Dark Souls II Not Expected On Next-Gen Anytime Soon

While the next-gen consoles have made strides in trying to impress the main stream audience with their bells and whistles, one Dark Souls II developer apparently isn’t all that moved.

Co-director of Dark Souls II , Yui Tanimura, recently said in an interview that, “We have not put any thought into this yet,” when asked if they plan on releasing an Xbox One or PS4 version of their game. This is a blasé attitude toward the hottest new tech on the market, to be sure. However, Tanimura did point to one important reason as to why they focused on just the Xbox 360 and PS3 for Dark Souls II : timing. As they wanted to get the game out to fans in a timely manner, developing a title for a pre-established platform that you’ve already had years of experience with does make sense in that regard.

They also may be a bit gun shy regarding underwhelming ports, as Tanimura does touch on the panned PC version of the original (with the current PC port being delayed). “We understand and accept a lot of the feedback we have received from fans around the world who have played the PC version. We first decided to port over to the PC platform as a result of the petition signed by players around the world. And with our goal to release a PC version as soon as possible, it was a decision to simply port the experience over in the shortest amount of time possible. For the PC version of Dark Souls II , the game development will be based on the PC – we will make sure that the main PC game features are supported and also do our best to attend to a lot of the user feedback that we have received.” He said.

Dark Souls II will be released in March of 2014 for Xbox 360 and PS3.
